Uniforms?

The topic for this blog is whether or not our school Saipan International School should have uniforms. I am against having uniforms. I don’t like uniforms at all. When I was in preschool I went to Grace Christian Academy and I had to wear a uniform consisting of long black pants and a white collar shirt every single day I went to school. I only got two pairs of the shirts and pants so they would constantly have to be washed and they looked terrible. They were all faded from all the washing everyday and the shirt had stains because like any child I made messes and a white collar shirt is easy to get stains on and hard to wash stains off of. The black pants faded easily and lost color so it became grayish and not a solid black. The materials of the uniforms were definitely not comfortable to wear as well. They were scratchy and not smooth and heavy too. They left me itchy all day.

When I get home, I would get out of my uniform and change into something as comfortable as possible. It would feel so great to change out of the scratchy, itchy, uncomfortable clothing. I would much rather be able to wear my own comfortable clothes to school and if they get dirty or stained, stop wearing those and wear something else.

I think that students should be able to wear what you want to wear to school. Ofcourse there should be restrictions on what they wear so they don’t wear anything too inappropriate or exposing or anything like that, but at least not the same thing over and over again every single day. It would just make school feel more like a prison rather than a place to learn and educate ourselves. It would bring down our mood and we would be gloomy and learning information would be so much harder because we aren’t happy and focused or interested in anything. Students should be able to not have to wear uniforms and be able to express themselves wearing different types of clothing for different events. Maybe this person really likes the color blue, schools shouldn’t force him to wear white day after day and have him hate it. Uniforms also make a school seem much more boring. All the students and kids there look exactly the same and its so plain, nothing interesting at all. It would make the school look more legitimate and in order, yes, but also boring like nothing fun ever goes on there. And to show the diversity of so many different types of people and their cultures, we should be able to wear what we want to express how we are. Especially since the school that I am currently going to is an international school, we shouldn’t all be assimilated and put together to make into one same. We are diverse and that is what the school is known for, having many different types of people around and all the different things they do and wear. We can share our culture and interest from people around the world, but with uniforms, this is impossible. What people wear can say a lot about themselves and their personality and it should be really good for a school to allow their students to be able to do this freely, especially, an international school that prides itself on being diverse and open in every possible way.
