Are games a waste of time?

Does playing computer games waste valuable time that we could be spend doing other things on. This, although I do play videogames is true. Playing computer games is a real waste of time. I mean, there are certain games that we learn things from such as crossword, or learning games, or maybe we improve reaction time or other things, but most times, games are just for entertainment. They entertain us and keep us occupied because we are bored, but when we get so into a game that we play it too much, even when we aren’t bored then that becomes a problem.
Games were invented and created by people so that we can pass time if we are bored or have nothing to do. Now, games have gotten so advanced and entertaining that we even play games now when we aren’t waiting for something. Computer games before were a way to pass time, but now we make time to play computer games and that is the difference between when something becomes a waste of time. If we continued to play simple games that we only play because we are bored, or are waiting for something so to keep us occupied, then it isn’t much of a waste of time. The question if someone as playing a computer game should be: If I wasn’t playing this computer game right now, what would I be doing. If the answer is nothing, or just sitting waiting for a bus, or something like that, then it wouldn’t be a waste of time, but since most times the answer to what I might be doing other than playing games is homework, or outside playing sports, or learning to play an instrument, or doing a hobby where you actually learn something, then that is definitely a waste of time.
Some computer games actually teach something though and might not be a waste of time, or as much as a waste of time. Games that are meant for kids that teach them how to multiply or add or subtract or learn new words, or to improve their reading speed or stuff like that would not be a waste of time. I played some  of those types of games when I was younger as well and they were not really a waste of time. I actually learned a lot from those games because I was interested and could intake the information a lot quicker. As we get older though, we tend to not play those educational games anymore and play more games that just entertain us and let us have fun. This is why I think that games nowadays are a waste of time. Also, games now aren’t just on the computer they’re everywhere, on phones and tablets, game devices such as the x-box, ps3, wii, psp, as well as on the computer. We don’t play games to pass time or keep us occupied anymore. We don’t play games when we have time now, we make time to play computer games, and that is why playing computer games to me is a waste of time.

So overall, playing computer games yes can and usually is a waste of time nowadays that we are older and don’t play as much educational games anymore, but when we were younger, games weren’t as much of a waste of time because we played educational games and learned something from them. Games are both a waste, and not a waste of time. It just depends on what game is played, when we play it, and how much we play it. We can’t generalize computer games and say that it is a waste of time or not.
